| * SI-7898 Preserve reader against subversionSom Snytt2016-06-041-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | SBT tries to install its own SimpleReader (for some reason) if it needs to create its own IMain. Because Rube Goldberg needs to execute some postinit hooks, don't let SBT do that.
* | SI-9104 Autodetect raw pastageSom Snytt2016-06-022-21/+40
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If `-raw` is not supplied explicitly to REPL `:paste`, see if the code text starts with `package` keyword or else see if it parses to a named package (to cope with leading commentary). In that case, take it as raw. But parse only on suspect comment slash. It's only worth parsing for a package if there's a chance that package keyword is buried behind comments. Small refactors to the `paste` object.

| * SI-7898 Label for parsing -i sourcesLukas Rytz2016-05-241-1/+1
| | | | | | | | Text-based REPL pre-parses, so use the current label for errors.
| * SI-7898 Report paste errors improvedlySom Snytt2016-05-232-18/+27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Use a "label" for errors, so that script names are shown. Position is still wrong for scripts in REPL. Initial scripts are run with `ILoop.echo` and results printing turned off, but reporter still enabled.
| * SI-7898 Quiet REPL at startupSom Snytt2016-05-221-6/+18
| | | | | | | | Enable noisy modes only when interpreting user input.
| * SI-7898 Read user input during REPL warmupSom Snytt2016-05-202-56/+204
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The compiler is created on main thread and user input is read on an aux thread (opposite to currently). Fixes completion when `-i` is supplied. Now `-i` means pasted and new option `-I` means line-by-line. The temporary reader uses postInit to swap in the underlying reader. Completion is disabled for the temporary reader, rather than blocking while it waits for a compiler. But manically hitting tab is one way of knowing exactly when completion is live.

* | SI-7916: ScriptEngine supportSom Snytt2016-05-193-163/+385
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Refactor the ScriptEngine support to an adaptor atop the IMain API. Allow references to resolve to context attributes. (The attributes must be defined at compilation time, though they may resolve to updated values at evaluation time.) This means that attributes are not bound statically in REPL history. In particular, we forgo the trick of binding attributes named "name: Type" as typed values. Instead, an `x` bound in dynamic context is injected into the script as a dynamic selection `$ctx.x` where `ctx` performs the look-up in the script context. When a compiled script is re-evaluated, a new instance of the script class is created and defined symbols are rebound. The context stdout writer is handled with `Console.withOut`, with bytes decoded using the default charset. Compilation errors are thrown as ScriptException with the first reported error. This commit doesn't attempt dynamic selection from objects in context. Currently, script must cast.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Under `-Yrepl-class-based`, templating must follow the same scoping as under traditional object-based. The new test shows a typical case where two values of the same simple name must be imported in different scopes.
* | Add check to scala REPL package to improve feedback about implicits (#5159)Jens2016-05-131-4/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | When the repl is started with additional compiler flags that prevent implicits being in scope (like -Yno-predef) the default message of implicits in scope using :implicits stays the same. This additional check will return the same message if predef is indeed in scope and an adjusted message if Predef is not in scope.

| * Create shaded JLine in sbt buildStefan Zeiger2015-10-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Reusing parts of #4593, this commits adds two additional subprojects to the sbt build: - repl-jline, which is already used by the ant build, builds the part of the REPL that depends on JLine. The actual JLine depenency is moved to this project. - repl-jline-shaded uses JarJar to create a shaded version of repl-jline and jline.jar. Unlike the ant build, this setup does not use any circular dependencies. dist/mkBin puts all of quick/repl, quick/repl-jline and quick/repl-jline-shaded onto the classpath of build-sbt/quick/bin/scala. A future addition to the sbt build for building build-sbt/pack will have to put the generated classfiles into the correct JARs, mirroring the old structure.
* | Remove unneeded overrides from ReplGLobalSom Snytt2015-10-271-32/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | These seem to have been originally added as a basis for future REPL work, for instance moving away from textual code generation to using a custom typechecker to include definitions and imports from previous lines in scope. But until such work is started, lets remove the as-yet-uneeded customizations in the name of simplicity. (Original commits by Som Snytt, extended by Jason Zaugg to remove the custom typer.)

I invite @performantdata to submit a followup PR bringing the Eclipse stuff into a good state on 2.12.x. there was a test failure in test/junit/scala/collection/mutable/OpenHashMapTest.scala due to the 2.12 compiler emitting the field backing a private var differently (with an unmangled name). | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Use `-` stripmargin character to indicate trim (i.e. remove leading indentation). `<<` looks more like shift left, but is already the standard here doc sequence. Indentation is often mangled by pasting, so trimming normalizes lines for error messages. The entire paste text was already trimmed as a whole. `-Dscala.repl.here` provides a default end string, which is unset unless specified. ``` scala> :pa <- // Entering paste mode (ctrl-D to finish) def g = 10 def f! = 27 -- // Exiting paste mode, now interpreting. <console>:2: error: '=' expected but identifier found. def f! = 27 ^ ```

| * Support completion in erroneous string interpolation.Jason Zaugg2015-09-241-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In the code: ``` s"${fooo<CURSOR" ``` The parser treats `fooo` as a interpolator ID for the quote that we actually intend to end the interpolated string. Inserting a space (in addition to `__CURSOR__` that we already patch in to avoid parsing a partial identifier as a keyword), solves this problem.

| * Fix completion for multi-line entriesJason Zaugg2015-09-093-16/+20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We need to include the previously entered lines into the code that we presentation compile. Management of this state makes the interpret method non tail recursive, so we could blow the default stack with a multi-line entry of hundreds of lines. I think thats an acceptable limitation.
| * Camel Case and JavaBean completionJason Zaugg2015-09-081-7/+16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is just too useful to leave on the cutting room floor. ``` scala> classOf[String].enclo<TAB> scala> classOf[String].getEnclosing getEnclosingClass getEnclosingConstructor getEnclosingMethod scala> classOf[String].simpl<TAB> scala> classOf[String].getSimpleName type X = global.TTWD<TAB> scala> type X = global.TypeTreeWithDeferredRefCheck ``` I revised the API of `matchingResults` as it was clunky to reuse the filtering on accessibility and term/type-ness while providing a custom name matcher.

Design goal: - Push as much code in src/interactive as possible to enable reuse outside of the REPL - Don't entangle the REPL completion with JLine. The enclosed test case drives the REPL and autocompletion programatically. - Don't hard code UI choices, like how to render symbols or how to filter candidates. When completion is requested, we wrap the entered code into the same "interpreter wrapper" synthetic code as is done for regular execution. We then start a throwaway instance of the presentation compiler, which takes this as its one and only source file, and has a classpath formed from the REPL's classpath and the REPL's output directory (by default, this is in memory). We can then typecheck the tree, and find the position in the synthetic source corresponding to the cursor location. This is enough to use the new completion APIs in the presentation compiler to prepare a list of candidates. We go to extra lengths to allow completion of partially typed identifiers that appear to be keywords, e.g `global.def` should offer `definitions`. Two secret handshakes are included; move the the end of the line, type `// print<TAB>` and you'll see the post-typer tree. `// typeAt 4 6<TAB>` shows the type of the range position within the buffer. The enclosed unit test exercises most of the new functionality.

| * SI-9450 Fix triple quoted strings in REPL :power modeJason Zaugg2015-08-271-2/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Some extra synthetic code generated under this mode failed to escape input before adding it to a literal string. It used to get away with this most of the time by triple quoting the literal. This commit reuses Scala string escaping logic buried in `Constant` to do this properly. Actually, the proper approach would be to build the synthetic code with trees and quasiquotes, and avoid the mess of stringly-genererated code. I threw in some defensive hygiene for the reference to `Nil` while I was in the neighbourhood.
