Currently there are a few sub-projects, each for integrating with different external sources for Streaming. Now that we have better ability to include external libraries (spark packages) and with Spark 2.0 coming up, we can move the following projects out of Spark to https://github.com/spark-packages - streaming-flume - streaming-akka - streaming-mqtt - streaming-zeromq - streaming-twitter They are just some ancillary packages and considering the overhead of maintenance, running tests and PR failures, it's better to maintain them out of Spark. In addition, these projects can have their different release cycles and we can release them faster. I have already copied these projects to https://github.com/spark-packages ## How was this patch tested? | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 'spark.sql.dialect' Many users have reported being confused by the distinction between the `sql` and `hql` methods. Specifically, many users think that `sql(...)` cannot be used to read hive tables. In this PR I introduce a new configuration option `spark.sql.dialect` that picks which dialect with be used for parsing. For SQLContext this must be set to `sql`. In `HiveContext` it defaults to `hiveql` but can also be set to `sql`. The `hql` and `hiveql` methods continue to act the same but are now marked as deprecated. **This is a possibly breaking change for some users unless they set the dialect manually, though this is unlikely.** For example: `hiveContex.sql("SELECT 1")` will now throw a parsing exception by default. Going forward we'll advise all users to run `spark-submit` to launch applications. This is a WIP patch but it makes the following improvements: 1. Improved `spark-env.sh.template` which was missing a lot of things users now set in that file. 2. Removes the shipping of SPARK_CLASSPATH, SPARK_JAVA_OPTS, and SPARK_LIBRARY_PATH to the executors on the cluster. This was an ugly hack. Instead it introduces config variables spark.executor.extraJavaOpts, spark.executor.extraLibraryPath, and spark.executor.extraClassPath. 3. Adds ability to set these same variables for the driver using `spark-submit`. 4. Allows you to load system properties from a `spark-defaults.conf` file when running `spark-submit`. This will allow setting both SparkConf options and other system properties utilized by `spark-submit`. 5. Made `SPARK_LOCAL_IP` an environment variable rather than a SparkConf property. This is more consistent with it being set on each node. I may do some small additional clean-up in this PR, but wanted to put them here in case others want to review. There are a few types of scripts here: 1. A tool to merge pull requests. 2. A script for packaging releases. 3. A script for auditing release candidates.
