* No warn when discarding r.f(): r.typeSom Snytt2016-09-101-5/+1
| | | | | | | | | | The paradigm is `def add(x: X): Unit = listBuffer += x`. The value that is discarded is not new information. Also cleans up the recent tweaks to help messaging. Adds newlines in case they ask for multiple helps.
* SI-8829 Defaultly scala -feature -deprecationSom Snytt2016-07-081-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Turn on `-feature -deprecation` in REPL if neither option is selected. ``` $ ./build/pack/bin/scala Welcome to Scala 2.12.0-20160707-105953-4e564ef (Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM, Java 1.8.0_92). Type in expressions for evaluation. Or try :help. scala> @deprecated("","") def f = 42 f: Int scala> f toDouble <console>:13: warning: postfix operator toDouble should be enabled by making the implicit value scala.language.postfixOps visible. This can be achieved by adding the import clause 'import scala.language.postfixOps' or by setting the compiler option -language:postfixOps. See the Scaladoc for value scala.language.postfixOps for a discussion why the feature should be explicitly enabled. f toDouble ^ <console>:13: warning: method f is deprecated: f toDouble ^ res1: Double = 42.0 scala> :quit $ scala Welcome to Scala 2.11.8 (Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM, Java 1.8.0_92). * Remove unused imports and other minor cleanupsSimon Ochsenreither2015-12-181-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | - Language imports are preceding other imports - Deleted empty file: InlineErasure - Removed some unused private[parallel] methods in scala/collection/parallel/package.scala This removes hundreds of warnings when compiling with "-Xlint -Ywarn-dead-code -Ywarn-unused -Ywarn-unused-import".
* SI-8503 -version is info settingSom Snytt2014-05-291-65/+63
| | | | | | | | | | | And the Scala runner exits with 0 for info settings. Producing the version string is consolidated. The compiler driver uses the default settings hook to short-circuit on -version. That's to avoid creating the compiler; really it should check shouldStopWithInfo first, as the runner does.
* Absolutized paths involving the scala package.Paul Phillips2013-05-031-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Confusing, now-it-happens now-it-doesn't mysteries lurk in the darkness. When scala packages are declared like this: package scala.collection.mutable Then paths relative to scala can easily be broken via the unlucky presence of an empty (or nonempty) directory. Example: // a.scala package scala.foo class Bar { new util.Random } % scalac ./a.scala % mkdir util % scalac ./a.scala ./a.scala:4: error: type Random is not a member of package util new util.Random ^ one error found There are two ways to play defense against this: - don't use relative paths; okay sometimes, less so others - don't "opt out" of the scala package This commit mostly pursues the latter, with occasional doses of the former. I created a scratch directory containing these empty directories: actors annotation ant api asm beans cmd collection compat concurrent control convert docutil dtd duration event factory forkjoin generic hashing immutable impl include internal io logging macros man1 matching math meta model mutable nsc parallel parsing partest persistent process pull ref reflect reify remote runtime scalap scheduler script swing sys text threadpool tools transform unchecked util xml I stopped when I could compile the main src directories even with all those empties on my classpath.
* SI-7261 Implicit conversion of BooleanSetting to Boolean and BooleanFlagSom Snytt2013-03-271-2/+2
| | | | | | | This commit shortens expressions of the form `if (settings.debug.value)` to `if (settings.debug)` for various settings. Rarely, the setting is supplied as a method argument. The conversion is not employed in simple definitions where the Boolean type would have to be specified.
* Modularized the repl.Paul Phillips2013-03-111-0/+105
Following in the footsteps of scaladoc and interactive. The interpreter sources move into src/repl, and are given a separate build target. As with the others, at present they are still packaged into scala-compiler.jar. A summary of changes: - repl requires use of ReplGlobal (this was already implied) - macro code's repl-specific classloader hack pulled into overridable method and overridden in ReplGlobal - removed -Ygen-javap option to eliminate backend's dependency on javap - removed -Yrepl-debug option (can still be enabled with -Dscala.repl.debug) - pushed javap code into src/repl so javax.tools dependency can bee weakened to the repl only - removed some "show pickled" related code which hasn't worked right in a while and isn't the right way to do it anymore anyway. Will return to fix showPickled and provide it with some tests.
